Albendazole is an anthelmintic drug group that works to overcome infections caused by worms such as pork tapeworm, hookworm, whipworm, roundworm and pinworm. These drugs work by preventing the worm to absorb sugar or glucose, to eventually run out of energy and die.

Warning

For women pregnant or planning a pregnancy are prohibited from taking this drug because it can cause birth defects and other disorders. For nursing mothers also should not consume this drug because of its impact on breast milk is unknown.

This drug should not be given to children aged under two years.

Please be careful in taking these drugs for patients with liver disease, bile duct obstruction, abnormalities in the blood or bone marrow, and Steve-Johnson syndrome.

When taking this drug, you should limit alcohol consumption because of the potential to increase the risk of side effects on the liver.

Dose of Albendazole

Taking albendazole dose generally is one 100 mg tablet twice a day, for three consecutive days. Repetition of this dose could be done with a gap of two weeks, if the suspected infection reappeared.

Albendazole Eating Right

Be sure to read the instructions on the packaging of the drug and follow the doctor's advice in taking albendazole. Do not add or reduce the dose without doctor's permission.

This drug is better taken with food in order to facilitate the absorption by the body, but can also without food. Albendazole can be chewed or swallowed whole. Especially if you or your child have difficulty swallowing tablets, you can crush the tablet to be mixed with water.

Complete taking this medication as directed by your physician or user of usage rules, stopping too early could lead to the return of infections. Avoid eating grapefruit or drinking grapefruit juice while taking this drug because it can increase the risk of side effects.

For patients who forget to take albendazole, are advised to immediately consume the thought if the schedule is not too close to the next dose. Do not double the next dose of albendazole on schedule to replace the missed dose.
